“Travelling without travelling” will soon be possible.

eDreams has decided to open a new line of services that will offer the possibility to buy packages of virtual experiences in augmented reality with Oculus Rift. Just imagine a screen that is strapped to your face to live extremely realist adventures in a virtual reality world.

eDreams, one of the world’s largest online travel agency, receives 14,000 requests every year from users looking for flights, or flight and hotel packages for their holidays.

But do you really need to move to live an unforgettable experience? With the new service, which is currently under development and will available from 2017, you will be able to remain comfortably at home and at the same time wander among the exotic markets of an oriental country like Thailand or Nepal, be amazed by the lights of Times Square in New York, or feel like you’re riding on an elephant in Asia.

This technology was developed by the eDreams Software Development team in collaboration with the American company Octopus Virtual Reality, a pioneer in the development of virtual reality technologies.

The first experiments of the project are proving to be successful and extremely encouraging,” said Grzegorz Nowak, the team manager of the Virtual Development company, “We expect that in a couple of years more and more people will choose this way of travelling, and that this product will be consolidated in the market.

The main target audience of this new service, which clearly have lower prices than a real trip, are people who are unable to get on a plane for economic reasons, for lack of time or because they are afraid of flying, but that does not mean that they want to give up the feeling of a change of scenery and enjoy a break from the routine.
