Running is becoming an increasinly common activity among travellers and can also be the best way to discover a city. The next time you pack to go on your next holiday, perhaps you should pack a pair of running shoes, too!
With the thrill of the sport in mind, eDreams is making a run for it, literally, as the main sponsor of the 2014 Barcelona Half Marathon again this year (eDreams Mitja Marató de Barcelona). Barcelona is a spectacular city to visit any time of year, and eDreams hopes this marathon encourages sport enthusiasts to enjoy the city and tour some of the most ideal destinations and attractions Barcelona has to offer.
The marathon is set to take place on the 15th of February. There were approximately 15,000 runners who participated at last year´s event, taking the great running challenge through the city center of Barcelona. The marathon also witnessed a World Record-breaking achievement by Florence Kiplagat from Kenya. Given this success of the marathon, the organization is hopeful to increase the attendance at this year´s race. If you are thinking about participating, you can register on the website of the Barcelona Half Marathon until February 8th. You’ll also find a useful workout plan to assist you in preparing physically for the race.
With the start and finish at the Passeig Pujades, the circuit will continue and travel through much of the scenic Barcelona coast, past Paseo Picasso to Columbus and then to the picturesque neighborhood of Paral•lel. After crossing this area, which was dubbed as the “The street of theaters in Europe”, the runners will cross the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, pass through Paseo de Sant Joan, Arc del Triomf and Poblenou, a former industrial neighborhood that is now considered a cool area, and is home to the artistic, cultural and commercial. A variation on this route, may be to redirect runners toward the coast, outlining the route by the sea instead of in the mountains as in previous editions. In total, wunners will run 21 km and get the chance to show Barcelona what they’ve got.
eDreams plans to continue organizing similar sporting events, which visitors can look forward to, like a rugby and golf event. The most recent, eDreams Marnaton, rallied more than 1,000 swimmers this past September 13th. The 7th edition of this event, turned out to be a success.
Participate in the eDreams Half Marathon and rediscover Barcelona!
