About Continental Airlines
Continental Airlines is an American company with headquarters in Houston, Texas (United States) and it was founded in 1934 by Walter T. Varney and his partner Louis Mueller. The airline was formerly known as Varney Speed Lines.
The inaugural flight took off on the 15th July 1934 from El Pueblo, Colorado to El Paso, Texas with several stops needed along the way in Las Vegas, Santa Fe and Alburquerque. The first long haul flight, known as the Gold Carpet Service, took off in 1957 departing from Chicago with Los Angeles as its destination. The first direct flights to Europe were launched in 1985.
Its first destination was London. Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid and Munich were later added to Continental Airlines' network.
The airline's first aircraft was a Lockheed model with one engine.
Today, Continental Airlines has 300 aircrafts and operates in over 285 global destinations, offering over 3,000 flights daily. Continental Airlines is currently adding new services and flights to its route network. www continental com
