Barcelona–El Prat Airport is Catalonia's main international airport and it is one of the busiest airports in Spain. The airport has two terminals; Terminal 1 was added in 2009 to cater to the increasing demands of teeming passengers. It was designed by the Catalan architect, Ricardo Bofill, and has over 160 check-in desks and a large shopping area.

The second terminal handles fewer flights and is used mainly by regional carriers. There are few direct flights from Barcelona to Los Angeles. However, major airline carriers operate over ten daily flights connecting via Paris, Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt, Zurich and New York City.

Getting to Barcelona airport

Barcelona El Prat Airport is situated in the southwest of the city, about 12km from its centre.
