Containing numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites and a thriving arts, music and culinary scene, the city is a major destination for travellers from around the world. When in Barcelona, here are a few things to do:
While there are two regional airports (Reus Airport in Tarragona and Costa Brava Airport in Girona) around 100 kilometres from Barcelona, El Prat is Barcelona's only conveniently located airport and services domestic flights on the Iberian Peninsula as well as international flights.
The airport is located approximately 12 km from the city centre.
Upon arrival visitors may reach Barcelona from the airport via train, bus, or taxi. Trains depart from Terminal 2 every 30 minutes and take around 25 minutes to arrive in the city centre. Also, metro line L9 is now available, though visitors can transfer from the airport train to other Barcelona Metro train lines at the Barcelona Sants and Passeig de Gracia stations, which may be better communicated to the desired destination. The airport shuttle bus is timed to meet the train as it arrives from Barcelona. Buses depart the airport and arrive at Placa Espanya in the city centre, and take around 15 minutes to arrive. There are also taxi ranks outside each exit of Terminals 1 and 2.
