Schiphol handles high passenger volumes, so arrive at least two hours before your flight to clear security.

From Amsterdam city centre, the most direct route to Schiphol is the train from Amsterdam Central Station, which runs frequently to the station directly beneath the terminal. Buses are the alternative:

• Amsterdam Airport Express (bus 397) from the Museumplein area
• bus 341 from Amsterdam Zuid
• bus 300 from Amstelveen

Flights from Amsterdam land at Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO) or Ciampino Airport (CIA). Fiumicino is Rome's main hub for full-service airlines, while Ciampino mostly serves low-cost carriers.

From Fiumicino, the Leonardo Express train is the fastest route into Rome, reaching Termini Station in about 30 minutes. The FL1 regional train is another rail option. Private hire pick-up points and taxi ranks are clearly marked outside each terminal.

Ciampino Airport is about 15km from Rome's city centre. Terravision buses wait outside the terminal to take passengers to Termini, the central railway station.
