About TAP Air Portugal
TAP is Portugal's national airline and was founded in 1945 under the name of "Transportes Aéreos Portugueses" (TAP). Although it was initially a public enterprise, it was privatised in 1953. Nevertheless, the government resumed ownership of the airline in 1957. TAP's first flight was from Lisbon to Madrid and took off on the 19th September 1946. TAP became a member of Star Alliance in 2005.
Today, TAP is the leading airline on the Portuguese market, with its headquarters in Lisbon and flying to 43 international destinations in Africa, North America and South America. TAP owns a fleet of 44 aircrafts, all of which are exclusively manufactured by Airbus. The company recently purchased Portugalia which is the second main Portuguese airline. www flytap com
