About Easyjet
easyJet is an international low cost airline based in London Luton Airport. The company was founded in March 1995 by Sir Stelios Haji-loannou. He and his family are still easyJet's main shareholders. easyJet's inaugural flights were from London Luton to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The company's advertising campaign, "Making flying as affordable as a pair of jeans - £29 one way," had a great impact in promoting the service.
easyJet claims to keep its costs down by eliminating unnecessary costs associated with traditional airlines, for example, easyJet lowers distribution costs by using the internet and by not distributing a free lunch. In 1998, the company bought 40% of a Swiss charter operation TEA Basel, currently known as easyJet Switzerland. This transaction enabled easyJet to open its first European base. In 2002 easyJet purchased the British Airway's low cost airline Go Fly. Finally, the airline introduced a new charity policy in 2004.
