British Airways (BA) was founded in 1973 and is the UK's largest international airline based on fleet size and number of international destinations. The airline has a fleet of over 255 aircraft and offers routes to more than 165 destinations. The airline's two main hubs are located in London's two major airports, Heathrow and Gatwick. In January 2011, British Airways and Iberia officially merged creating the International Airlines Group (IAG), the world's third largest airline in terms of annual revenue.The airline has partnerships and agreements with numerous companies including American Airlines, and being a founding member of Oneworld alliance, British Airways is able to operate a network that covers more than 600 destinations. The company also has agreements with independent airlines based in the United Kingdom, which fly under British Airways name, flight code and company conditions. It also offers code share routes with other airlines. BA Cityflyer, British Midland International (BMI), OpenSkies, and British Airways World Cargo are subsidiary airlines owned by British Airways.

There are four ways you can check-in for your British Airways flight: online; on your internet enabled mobile phone; at an airport kiosk; or at a British Airways check-in desk.

Executive Club

Becoming a member of the British Airways frequent flyer program, the Executive Club, allows you to accumulate points, called Avios, and redeem them for future flights and other perks like special offers and promotions.

Flight status

Up to 14 days in advance you can check the status of your flight online and also consult further travel advice and information pertaining to your trip.

One piece of hand baggage plus a laptop or handbag is allowed. Both items must fit in the bag gauge at the check-in counter:

• Weight limit: 23kg (51lbs)
• Dimensions of main piece of hand baggage: 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (22in x 18in x 10in)
• Dimensions of laptop or handbag: 45cm x 36cm x 20cm (18in x 14in x 8in)

The checked baggage allowance depends on the class of travel of each passenger:

• World Traveller and Euro Traveller passengers - 1 piece of free baggage
• World Traveller Y Class and World Traveller Plus - 2 pieces of free baggage
• First Club World - 3 pieces of free baggage
• Maximum dimensions of free baggage: 90cm x 75cm x 43cm (35.5in x 29.5in x 16 in)

Extra bags are allowed for an additional price. Save money on additional baggage by paying online before you fly. Bags exceeding the free weight allowance will be subject to an overweight baggage charge.
