Qatar Airways baggage allowance: carry-on and checked bag rules

Economy passengers may carry one bag up to 7kg. Business and First Class passengers may carry two bags with a combined weight of 15kg. All cabin bags must fit within 50cm x 37cm x 25cm. Laptops should be packed inside the cabin bag; a separately carried laptop bag counts as your cabin bag allowance. In addition to the cabin bag, all passengers may carry certain personal items free of charge: a small purse or briefcase, a blanket or jacket, an umbrella, a pair of crutches or walking stick, a small camera or binoculars case, limited reading material, an infant basket, and duty-free items purchased on the day of the flight.

No single checked bag may exceed 32kg on any route or in any cabin class, regardless of the total allowance. On weight-concept routes (most international routes outside Africa and the Americas), the total weight allowance is 20kg on Economy Lite, 25kg on Economy Classic, 30kg on Economy Convenience, 35kg on Economy Comfort, 40kg in Business, and 50kg in First Class. On piece-concept routes (Africa and Americas), each individual bag is limited to 23kg in Economy or 32kg in Business and First.

Yes. Economy Lite, the lowest Economy fare, includes checked baggage: 20kg on weight-concept routes, or one piece of up to 23kg on piece-concept routes (Africa and Americas). However, on a small number of tactical short-haul routes, Economy Lite may be sold without any free checked baggage. Always check the baggage allowance shown at the time of booking.

On flights to/from Africa or the Americas (piece concept), each bag must not exceed 158cm total (length + width + height). On all other routes (weight concept), each individual piece must not exceed 300cm total. A single piece may not exceed 32kg on any route.

It depends on your fare and route. On piece-concept routes (Africa and Americas), Economy Classic, Convenience, and Comfort fares include two pieces of up to 23kg each. Economy Lite includes only one piece on these routes. Business and First Class include two pieces of up to 32kg each on piece-concept routes. On weight-concept routes, you can split your total weight allowance across as many bags as you like, provided no single bag exceeds 32kg.

The allowance depends on your cabin, fare sub-tier, and route. On weight-concept routes, Economy allowances run from 20kg to 35kg depending on the fare, Business is 40kg, and First Class is 50kg. On piece-concept routes to/from Africa and the Americas, Economy Classic and above receive two pieces of 23kg each, and Business/First receive two pieces of 32kg each. First Class on weight-concept routes has the highest standard allowance at 50kg.

Three free checked bags are not included in any standard Qatar Airways fare. On weight-concept routes you can bring multiple bags as long as the combined weight stays within your fare allowance and no single bag exceeds 32kg. On piece-concept routes (Africa and Americas), the number of pieces is fixed at one or two depending on your fare and cabin. Additional bags beyond the allowance can be purchased in advance through Manage Booking, with better pricing available more than six hours before departure.

Power banks and spare lithium batteries must be carried in your cabin bag. They are not permitted in checked luggage. E-cigarettes also belong in the cabin. Sharp objects must always travel in checked baggage.

On weight-concept routes (most international destinations outside Africa and the Americas), you receive a total kilogram allowance that can be split across any number of bags, as long as no single piece exceeds 32kg or 300cm total dimensions. On piece-concept routes (flights to/from Africa and the Americas), your allowance is a set number of bags each with its own weight limit - 23kg per piece in Economy or 32kg per piece in Business and First - and each piece must not exceed 158cm total dimensions.

Sports equipment - including golf bags, skis, snowboards, surfboards, and diving gear - is accepted as checked baggage within your existing allowance at no extra charge. If the equipment exceeds your allowance by weight or pushes you over your piece limit, additional baggage fees apply. Pre-purchasing extra allowance online (more than six hours before departure) costs less than paying at the airport. Bicycles require specific preparation: tyres deflated, pedals removed, handlebars turned parallel to the frame.
