The Best and Worst Airports in the World 2018

The best airports in the world

Using over 50,000 reviews from the last year, eDreams brings you a selection of the best and worst airports to visit in 2018. Travelers reviewed the airports they visited, listing the features that mattered most to them. They also considered how good the restaurants, shopping facilities, and waiting areas were in each airport.

The list has changed a lot since 2017: only three of last year's top 10 made the cut. There is a new best, and a new worst airport. See below for the best and worst airport rankings, and a few other highlights of the study.

The top 10 includes some surprises as well as a few old friends. Seven airports on the list are new entrants since 2017. The returning three were Zurich, Munich, and Frankfurt's airports. Numbers 5 to 7 on the list were all taken by German airports (including Düsseldorf Airport).

European airports made up eight of the top 10, but some of the best were from Asia, with Singapore Changi Airport in the top spot and Istanbul Atatürk Airport at number 3. Two other airports from Asia and the Middle East, Bangkok International Airport and Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport, were on last years list but were dropped this time around. Other airports dropped from the list were from Helsinki, Glasgow, Geneva, Oslo, and Dublin.

The 5 Worst Airports in the World

Rank Airport Country Score
1 Casablanca Mohammed V airport (CMN) Casablanca, Morocco 3,19
2 Rome Ciampino airport (CIA) Rome, Italy 3,21
3 Berlin Tegel airport (TXL) Berlin, Germany 3,30
4 Berlin Schoenefeld airport (SXF) Berlin, Germany 3,33
5 London Luton airport (LTN) London, United Kingdom 3,56

Germany had some of the worst airports in the world as well as some of the best. Two airports from the capital Berlin, Schoenefeld Airport and Tegel Airport, were the 3rd and 4th worst respectively. This may well be because they haven't been upgraded in some time: both airports are due to be replaced by the new Berlin-Brandenburg Airport which has been repeatedly postponed. Berlin Schnoenefeld and London Luton airports were also on last year's worst airports list. LaGuardia and J. F. Kennedy airports in New York were both on last year's worst airports list, but neither appeared this time. The worst airport in the world this year is Morocco's Casablanca Mohammed V Airport.
